"Average Ordinary People"

Songwriter's Note by Julie Nolen:  I went through one of those periods in life, right after a long-term relationship had just ended, where things were very dark and bleak. I was left in a mostly empty apartment and was going a little stir crazy so I wrote this in order to work some things out. It's sort of a reflection of how even material things can become associated with certain people, which sometimes you don't notice until they both are gone.

Seems like everyday this year
Every morning I'd be in tears
Have a hard time getting out of bed
Cause it's where we used to lay our heads

Yeah I've taken a few home with me
But they only want the fantasy
Only one thing they couldn't do
They just couldn't be you

Average Ordinary People
Average Ordinary Things
Average Ordinary People
Average Ordinary Things

We're just average ordinary people
These are just average ordinary things
We're just average ordinary people
Without you why should I feel so empty

I see you're still with her
Oh no, I'm not that bitter
Her car was in our driveway
When all I had of you was packed away

Well does she use my dresser mirror
Does your life seem so much clearer
When you see your reflection
Do you see your deception?

Average Ordinary People
Average Ordinary Things
Average Ordinary People
Average Ordinary Things

We're just average ordinary people
These are just average ordinary things
We're just average ordinary people
Without you why should I feel so empty

Threw a glass at the mirror and it cracked into a thousand lines
Took everything I had of you and you left me fallen way behind
So I sleep in the bed where we made love at least a hundred times
It's the only piece of you that I can still call mine
We're just average ordinary people
These are just average ordinary things
We're just average ordinary people
Without you why should I feel so empty
